Eco-Pocket Ashtray – BIATAKI

Description

The Biataki – eco ashtray is a project that began as a piece of cane and a reused wine stopper. Thus was born the first eco pocket ashtray, reusable, durable and sustainable.

Created by David Rodrigues, at the moment Biataki is a set of products-cause and an environmental awareness movement. Its aim is reducing, or even eliminating, the problem of pollution caused by the disposal of cigarette butts outdoors. Although a cigarette butt is very small, it contains up to 4000 chemicals; of which 700 are toxic and 60 are carcinogenic. One can imagine the impact of the 4.5 trillion butts that annually end up in the oceans!

ECO values:

• Biatakí products are hand crafted using natural raw materials (cane, cork, wood, and bamboo from Portugal), as well as reused materials (cork stoppers, black plastic bases, collection pots). Soon all PVC pipes will be made of recycled plastic;
• Production is carried out in the most sustainable way possible: for example, the reeds are harvested by hand (using a saw) and the electricity consumed at the workshop comes from renewable energies through Coopérnico;

The Biataki Network is an awareness raising program through the installation of Biataki ashtrays and collection of cigarette butts for appropriate and specialised disposal.
